IDEA/CONCEPT
This piece explores the theme of duality—past and present, tradition and evolution. The two classical figures, nearly identical yet distinct, symbolize the echoes of history that persist in modern culture. Their faces, carved in stone, remain timeless, yet the background of raw, expressive graffiti suggests an ever-changing world. The juxtaposition of grayscale statues with vibrant splashes of pink and blue highlights the intersection of antiquity and contemporary rebellion.
EXECUTION & PROCESS
The statues were meticulously rendered to capture the intricate details of weathered marble, giving them a sense of age and permanence. Layers of urban textures were built around and over the figures using bold graffiti strokes, abstract drips, and geometric color blocks. The use of high-contrast lighting creates depth, making the figures appear to emerge from the chaotic backdrop. Neon-inspired highlights further emphasize the contrast between the controlled classical forms and the unpredictability of modern street art.
PERSONAL REFLECTION
History doesn’t repeat itself; it transforms. This piece reflects how the past shapes the present, how identities shift yet remain connected to their origins. In every layer of paint, there is a story—some fading, some being rewritten.
